Daytime Emergency
Throughout our opening hours we keep emergency appointments free each day for patients with urgent problems. If you are in pain or worried about something, please telephone us as early in the day as you are able to.
Reasons to call us:
- Severe toothache or persistent dental pain
- A broken, chipped or knocked-out tooth
- A lost filling, crown or veneer
- Swelling in the mouth, face or jaw
- Bleeding that will not stop after dental treatment
- An abscess or signs of infection
What happens next:
Our reception team will gauge how urgent things are and find you an appointment as quickly as possible. The dentist will then examine you, bring your pain under control and talk through the best way to put the problem right.
Out of Hours Emergency
If a dental emergency arises outside our normal opening hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, please follow the guidance below:
Telephone the practice
Call us on 01508 532226 and follow the recorded instructions on our answerphone, which explain how to reach the emergency help available outside surgery hours.
While you wait:
- Toothache: Over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can ease things; never rest aspirin directly against the gum.
- Knocked-out tooth: Handle it only by the crown, never the root, and keep it moist in some saliva. Aim to be seen within two hours for the best chance of saving it.
- Broken tooth: Rinse gently with warm water and hold a cold compress against the cheek to settle any swelling.
- Lost filling: Pharmacies sell temporary filling material; try not to chew on that side until you can be seen.
When to go straight to A&E
Go to your nearest A&E if you have bleeding that will not stop, significant facial swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or any injury to the face or jaw after an accident.
